Marcel Joseph Vogel was born on April, 1917 in San Francisco. A series of extraordinary life events, beginning at the age of 6 when he was officially pronounced dead of double lobular pneumonia, shaped Marcel’s life onto the twin paths of science and spirituality. Soon afterward, he began to question his life purpose. At the same time, Marcel became interested in the natural world, watching fireflies and trying to understand their light. Roughly six years later, Marcel heard a voice in his mind say “You will be a phosphor chemist. You will do pioneering work in luminescence. You will write a book and create your own business.”
In the coming years, Marcel did all this and quite a bit more. As a grammar school student he visited the Mechanics Institute and translated, from the German, original articles on phosphor chemistry; before he was 15, he synthesized and manufactured a set of phosphors; throughout high school and college, he researched all the existing publications in the field of luminescence, teaching himself what wasn’t yet available in school. In 1943, he published The Luminescence of Liquids and Solids and their Practical Application, a groundbreaking book written with Dr. Peter Pringsheim. Marcel then created Vogel Luminescence Corp., pioneering the manufacture of fluorescent bulletin paints for outdoor signs and billboards. The company patented several other related inventions including black light kits for the detection of cancer, rodent contamination, and milk inspection.
During this time, Vogel Luminescence did part-time consulting work for IBM. With IBM scientists, Marcel developed a magnetic coating formulation that is still in use today on IBM hard disks. In 1957, Vogel Luminescence was sold to Ultra Violet Products and Marcel joined IBM as a full time research scientist. He became one of the most prolific new patent inventors in IBM ’s Data Products Division history. Included among the many inventions are patents in the field of magnetic recording media, liquid crystals, and the creation and development of rare earth phosphors. Marcel also was granted many patents in the field of Opto Electronics. This was for work on photo-relays for analog to digital converters, as well as work with rare earth phosphors, which resulted in the development of the red hue for color televisions. His work with liquid crystals helped realize their emergence into everyday life in the form of digital displays on everything from watches to radios. He also received patents for the degassification of liquids, Dark Field Microscopy and its use in surface analysis, organic and inorganic photoconduction and more.
In the 1970’s Marcel did pioneering work in man-plant communication experiments. He was able to duplicate the Backster effect of using plants as transducers for bio-energetic fields that the human mind releases, demonstrating that plants respond to thought. Marcel found that plants respond more to the thought of being cut, burned, or torn than to the actual act. He discovered that if he tore a leaf from one plant a second plant would respond, but only if he was paying attention to it. The plants seemed to be mirroring his own mental responses. He concluded that the plants were acting like batteries, storing the energy of his thoughts and intentions.
This led Marcel to the study of quartz crystals, the creation of a faceted crystal, and the many benefits these “Vogel-cut” crystals can provide to humanity. For example, Marcel discovered that he could structure water by spinning it around a tuned crystal, altering many of the characteristics of the water and converting it into an information storage system. A tuned crystal could improve the flavor of wine and create many other improvements to physical structures.
The material on this website describes some of these important findings. It was created with the assistance and permission of Rumi Da, the Soul who Dr. Vogel entrusted with preserving his work. For more details about Marcel and his life, click here.
Rumi Da is a spiritual friend and mentor, a guide whose work is to be a friend to those who tread the path of Awakening and seek to be of service in the process. He is an authority on the use of quartz crystals, having studied with teachers from a variety of backgrounds ranging from the scientific to the spiritual and shamanic.
Rumi has trained as an addictions counselor, massage therapist, and professional rebirther. He is a graduate instructor of the School of Hatha and Raja Yoga of Toronto, Canada, and has participated in informal training in Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Bio-energetics, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, and Spirit Releasement® Therapy. He is also a member of the Association to Advance Ethical Hypnosis and the Sound Healers Association. In 1979, he was initiated into sannyas by Osho Rajneesh and given the name Swami Anand Rumi Da.
In 1981, Rumi was given the Dharma name of Venerable Karma Tigme Tashi by His Holiness Kalu Rinpoche and in 2002 Khenpo Palden Sherab Rinpoche and Khenpo Twewang Dongyal Rinpoche gave him the name Pema Lhasung upon his reconfirming his refuge dedication. Rumi has a broad understanding of Theosophy and the teachings of the Tibetan Master Djwal Khul as presented through Alice Bailey and Janet McClure. He is a Reiki Master/Teacher in both the Usui and Karuna systems of Reiki, is a student of Trika Shaivism as revealed by Swami Lakshmanjoo, and has trained in the use of crystals with Ross Andaloro, DaEl Walker and Dhyani Ywahoo.
Rumi has traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and South East Asia, offering teaching to a wide variety of individuals. He is a teacher and consultant for the School of Traditional Ayurveda and Allied Disciplines in San Vito, Italy. To experience his lectures and seminars is to experience the energies of Love and Humor as well as a broad spectrum of knowing, expertise, and understanding. Rumi Da brings both Eastern and Western mystery traditions into up-to-date, practical and interesting presentations.
Rumi is the author of Lifestream Crystal Energywork, Vogel-cut Crystals, numerous articles for a variety of publications, and has in preparation Crystals, Love, and The Matrix of Consciousness. He has conducted workshops with his friend and mentor, Dr. Marcel Vogel, with whom he acquired his fundamental training and knowledge of the use of quartz crystals. Shortly before his death in 1991, Dr. Vogel asked Rumi Da to continue the work with crystals and specifically to offer teachings to those individuals interested in this form of service.
Gene has been interested in spirituality and healing all of his life. His group work began in the late 1970s, a time when there were few choices available, with Transcendental Meditation and Kundalini Yoga. The latter, which encompasses all seven major paths of yoga, opened his mind, his heart and his sensitivity.
As one “unbelievable” experience followed another, Gene realized he needed a better understanding of the world of energy. He soon found Marcel Vogel, and began following his seminars. One day in San Diego, Marcel was serendipitously in the same hotel, on the same floor, in an adjacent room. Gene knocked on his door and asked Marcel to personally teach him his healing process. Marcel knew Gene from his other courses, and had even asked Gene on stage to demonstrate how he used the crystal in healing. Because of that, he was willing to work one-on-one with Gene. After a few hours together, Marcel said, “You’re ready to go out and help the suffering and the sick”.
So that’s what Gene did. In the early 1980s, he went to hospitals, hospices and other places that attempt to help the very sick. One of those places was a cancer research lab in Toronto, which treated survivors suffering from the aftereffects of radiation and chemotherapy. Many of those patients died; however, Gene worked his method very successfully on several.
One day at the cancer lab, Gene was approached by two gentlemen. They asked him many questions about what he was doing. It turned out that one was an Ontario Provincial Police Officer and the other was the general manager of a drug company developing cancer cures. Although they were initially skeptical, Gene was later offered a room at the Christy Pitts Health Clinic in Toronto, where he treated cancer patients.
Gene’s healing approach is based upon Dr. Vogel’s technique: he enters a person’s energy field or aura, linking to their thymus gland. This regulates the immune system and if fully successful, eradicates most of the contaminants in the blood. When that happens, the subject gets better.
Gene continues his healing work today, working with as many people requesting assistance as he possibly can.
Bill is an engineer and entrepreneur who started his first company at the age of 24. He was president and CEO of that software company for 30 years. Along the way, he started or helped start several other companies.
He sold the assets of his software company and took a year off to look for a new opportunity. In 2005, he decided to jump into real estate development. His companies built over 50 new housing units over the next several years and he completed two land subdivisions. The financial crisis of 2008 -10 was a rather unpleasant time for real estate investors (and everyone else) and he decided to move on.
Bill started a yoga practice in 2011 in hopes that yoga would help with a debilitating neurological condition. Happily yoga did help and, as long as he does yoga three or more times per week, his symptoms abate. Early in his yoga practice, Bill was introduced to energy healing by (you guessed it!) a yoga instructor. The energy work was fascinating and he jumped in, taking many classes and workshops to enhance his Pranic Healing skills. He subsequently became an Arhatic Yogi and continues his energy work hosting meditations and healing events. In mid 2019, Bill completed his RYT-200 Yoga Teacher Certification.
Today Bill is developing new products in the yoga, fitness and physical therapy space (and maybe just one more company). He is writing and working on melding art with his writing. He is also doing research into energy healing with special attention to the use of crystals in energy work.
The Marcel Vogel Legacy project started in June of 2018. Bill was visiting his son, Victor, then a PhD student at UC Berkeley. He was looking for something to read and was drawn to a red notebook with no spine and no title. Bill pulled it off the shelf and found the Crystal Knowledge Workbook by Marcel Vogel and started reading. And that is how this project got started.
Victor said, “I tried to give you that book four years ago and you didn’t want anything to do with it.”
Bill replied, “That was then and this is now. This book is talking to me. I guess I just wasn’t ready back then. I am now.”
Alison is a knowledge wonk. When she becomes interested in something, she learns as much as she can about it, often integrating many perspectives. She did this in school, with a broad study of languages; then in a 25-year career as a Market Research Analyst, following a B.S. in Physics and an MBA.
In 2010, a family crisis changed everything and from then on, Alison began volunteering with non-profit organizations providing services to victims of addiction. She often devoted more time to pro bono than to paid work. Alison took on the roles non-profits typically need the most: marketing, technology and fundraising.
Feeling there was more she could do, especially in the area of improving outcomes, Alison discovered energy healing. With her typical zeal for learning new things Alison studied Pranic Healing, Reiki, Reconnective Healing and several other healing modalities. Her energy work and studies continue and have grown to include publishing The Awaken Blog, a weekly publication about healing, and her healing practice.
When she started reading Bill's copy of the Crystal Knowledge Workbook, Alison knew this was important material. It supported and added to everything she had learned so far. Furthermore, it had been created from Dr. Vogel's sincere desire to make the world a better place.
Alison's goal with the MarcelVogelLegacy.com website is to share Dr. Vogel's work in the spirit in which he so generously shared his knowledge. She's also having a blast listening to his lectures!
